Below you will find some of the costs associated with a United States Green Card application for your Colombian spouse.


First Stage

The initial stage of a United States Green Card application takes place with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), which currently offers two options. The first, a paper-based application, involves a filing fee of USD $675. The second, an online filing option, costs USD $625. Please also note that required documents that are not in English will need to be translated, so translation fees may also be incurred. It may also be necessary to send documents overseas, in which case international mailing costs may be incurred. 


Second Stage

The second stage of a United States Green Card application process for an applicant outside the United States is a review by the National Visa Center, an agency under the United States Department of State (DOS). The DOS charges USD $445 for this part of the process. 


Third Stage

The third stage of the process is a review by the United States Embassy in Bogota. Costs for this part of the process may vary as it involves a medical exam, which must be conducted by a doctor approved by the United States Embassy. Physicians recommended by the Embassy vary in cost, and the specific requirements of the exam may also vary based on the applicant’s medical history. However, this cost is typically between $400 and $700 USD. Following approval of the case, USCIS requires a payment of $235 for the final processing of the Green Card. 


Please note that the immigration authorities hold the discretion to update filing fees and other processing costs at any time. Furthermore, paying an incorrect amount for a filing fee will likely result in the rejection of a Green Card application.
